The longtime Editor of The Music & Sound Retailer, Dan Ferrisi, has been promoted, having been entrusted to serve as Editor of sister publication Sound & Communications, effective June 19, 2017. This planned succession follows the announcement that Sound & Communications’ current Editor, David A. Silverman, a publishing veteran who has helmed the magazine for more than 17 years, will retire at the conclusion of the InfoComm show in June. A new Editor for The Music & Sound Retailer will be selected in the coming weeks. Testa Communications, the publisher of both magazines, will ensure a smooth transition for each publication, befitting their leadership positions in their respective markets.
Ferrisi has led The Music & Sound Retailer since May 2011, during which time he’s been intimately involved in supporting numerous music products industry causes. Prior to joining The Retailer, he was Assistant Editor and then Associate Editor for Sound & Communications, spanning a total of nearly seven years.
“I’m incredibly excited to take the reins of Sound & Communications, the publication with which I began my career, and in whose industry I already have so many great relationships,” Ferrisi said. “Although I’m sad to be leaving the music products industry and The Music & Sound Retailer, I’m gratified to know I’ll be working with many of the same people as I transition to covering the commercial audio, video and lighting industry. I’ll have big shoes to fill as I take over for my mentor, David, but I’m eager to embrace the challenge.”
Vinny Testa, President of Testa Communications and Publisher of both magazines, added, “The team we’ve built over the years is exceptional, and their talents are on display in each issue of Sound & Communications and The Music & Sound Retailer. I want to commend David for his incalculable contributions to this company over nearly 20 years, and I want to congratulate Dan on his promotion to lead a publication with the history and prestige that Sound & Communications has.”
