NAMM celebrated “Music Monday” at its headquarters in Carlsbad CA on May 7. Music Monday kicks off NAMM’s annual National Wanna Play Music Week, with nearly 600,000 students and individuals across the U.S. and Canada joining together in song and music making in a collaborative show of support for music education and the fun and benefits of playing music. This year, representatives from the mayor’s offices in San Diego and Carlsbad CA visited NAMM to officially proclaim May 7 as Music Monday. Following a presentation to NAMM President Joe Lamond, both city officials stressed the importance of music making and arts education. Members of the community and NAMM staff then celebrated music making with a live drum and ukulele circle in front of the NAMM building.
The drum circle was facilitated by Christine Stevens of San Diego-based Upbeat Drum Circles, an organization focused on creating an experience in collaborative creativity. San Diego-based music product retail store Bertrand’s Music led the group in a ukulele circle with vocals through the “I Wanna Play” theme song and other favorites.
