Celebrating American Manufacturing And The Companies That Still Do It
Here at The Music & Sound Retailer, it’s our pleasure to bring you several annual stories that, according to our detailed reader surveys, the vast majority of our readers eagerly anticipate every year. One of the most prominent of these annual features celebrates those companies that, despite all the possible reasons to move operations offshore, nevertheless manufacture a minimum of 50 percent (and oftentimes far more) of their products right here in the United States. Companies like those spotlighted in this article are contributing significantly to the American economy, not least by employing skilled American workers and paying them the wages that prevail in western countries like ours.
By no means is this story meant to slight companies that do the bulk of their design, manufacturing or assembly outside of the United States; it is beyond dispute that there is a talented labor pool across the globe, and many companies with foreign manufacturing produce goods that are top notch. However, at a time when the value proposition of moving offshore is so attractive to so many, we at The Retailer like to use this space every year to tip our collective hat to those whose commitment to “Made in the U.S.A.” remains unshakable.
We start our celebration of American manufacturing with Jim D’Addario….
D’Addario is proud to make 95 percent of its product in the U.S.A. Whenever designing a new product or reengineering an existing one, we look for ways to create designs that are unique, highly functional, and easier to manufacture and assemble; most of the time, this approach enables us to manufacture the product right here
