NAMM is launching “#MusicISLife – A Tribute to Healthcare Professionals,” an online social-gathering opportunity for music-makers of all abilities to join in paying tribute to the steadfast dedication and resilience of healthcare professionals across the globe. While there is no set song or instrument to perform, participation is easy: all people are encouraged to make music at 6:00 p.m. ET in tribute to those on the front lines battling this pandemic.
“Never has there been a time in my life where the importance of music and music-making has held more of a pivotal role in providing solace and hope for our society,” said Chris Martin, NAMM chair and CEO of C.F. Martin and Co. “As our industry knows, music IS life, and while we may never be able to fully express our gratitude to those on the front lines of healthcare, it is our hope that our NAMM Family will take this time to honor them with their music.”
Ideas for participation include inspiration from Italy’s #FlashmobSonoro, which saw the country’s citizens sing and perform popular songs from their balconies on everything from full drum kits to pots and pans, or the recent outburst of songs in both Ft. Worth and Boston, with retirement communities and individuals alike spontaneously taking part in song from their windows. And in some cases, taking your instrument outdoors for an impromptu front- or backyard solo performance.
The online celebration will see NAMM’s social networks come alive with curated musical performances as all musicians are encouraged to share their music using the hashtag #MusicISLife across their social media platforms. Additional inspiration can be found in searching the hashtag.
