NAMM issued the following statement from director of public affairs and government relations Mary Luehrsen to announce the cancellation of May’s Advocacy Fly-In:
“After much consideration, NAMM has made the difficult decision that with the recent advisements to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the various federal, state, and local government responses to that emergency, to cancel our Music Education D.C. Fly-In, scheduled for May 18-20, 2020.
As you know, this is an annual project that is at the heart of NAMM’s vision and mission to assure that every child has the opportunity to learn and grow with music, and even with this decision, we will ensure that “our voice is heard.” We will be asking you to write letters, at the appropriate time, to support our appropriations request and a small group of D.C.-area NAMM members can help us with the Best Communities for Music Education flag distribution. We will keep you posted on these opportunities.
Our advocacy and policy efforts are doubling down to support our NAMM Members through this difficult time. Updates on federal economic relief efforts including loans available through the Small Business Administration, along with other ongoing updates are available at NAMM’s Issues and Advocacy Page, here. We will provide updates on potential “mini Fly-Ins” in the months ahead on pocketbook policy issues that impact NAMM Members.
All 2020 Fly-In registration fees paid to date will be refunded directly. Note: you will be notified of the refund within 48 hours – funds will be deposited into your account within 7 business days.
Thank you for volunteering to be part of Fly-In 2020. I will sorely miss being together as we charge the Hill for the importance of music education, but this work continues every day. Your contributions as an industry leader and advocate are vital as we work together to assure that every child has the right to learn music.”
