Majestic Percussion has been chosen as the presenting sponsor of the 2021 Modern Snare Drum Competition. Hosted by the Cleveland Institute of Music, this competition is open to ages 26 and under and will be held virtually with results announced on June 4.
The inaugural event was held in 2008 with a focus on presenting a wide array of snare drum repertoire to the percussion community. The annual competition has seen a rich history of performances by many notable up-and-coming percussionists. Additionally, some of the world’s most renowned percussion composers (including Majestic artists She-e Wu, Glenn Kotche and Casey Cangelosi) have commissioned works specifically for the Modern Snare Drum Competition.
Contest director Marc Damoulakis, who is both a faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Cleveland Orchestra principal percussionist, is excited to see the event return after cancellation of the 2020 installment.
“I am so thrilled that The Modern Snare Drum Competition is happening amidst these challenging times and circumstances this year,” Damoulakis said. “We are so grateful to have Majestic supporting and participating in the competition!”
“The Majestic team is extremely honored for the opportunity to take part in such a fantastic event” added Majestic USA brand manager Nic Milliner. “The Modern Snare Drum Competition truly embodies the sense of community that exists in the percussion world and provides a unique performance and learning experience for all who compete. “
As part of the prize packages for winning participants, Majestic is providing snare drums from its Prophonic Series line. The first-place winner in Division 1 will receive a limited-edition 60th Anniversary 14“ x 12“ Cherry Prophonic Orchestral Field Drum, while the first-place winner in Division 2 will receive a 14“ x 5“ Prophonic Walnut snare drum.
