Fender, a collaborator of Tom Petty’s, issued a statement to the Music & Sound Retailer about the sudden and unfortunate passing of the rock legend on Oct. 2 at the age of 66.

Tom’s iconic spirit and artistic output embodied that which is why it’s has endured for over 40 years. Fender always held Tom in the highest regard and was honored to be associated with him, and help give him tools to enable his creativity. Our team that worked directly with Tom and his camp loved being around him, and were amazed how down to earth and familial the vibe was. He will be truly missed – he was one of a kind.”
